How Much Does Porcelain Stoneware Cost: What Determines the Price and How to Avoid Overpaying

The question “how much does porcelain stoneware cost?” may sound simple, but there is no single answer: the final amount depends on numerous factors, from the brand and slab format to the complexity of installation. Before relying on an average price found online, it is worth understanding what actually determines the cost of the material and why seemingly identical marble-look tiles from different suppliers can differ in price by two or three times.

Below, we explain the main components of the price, what to consider when choosing porcelain stoneware, and how to avoid overpaying per square meter.

What Is Included in the Cost of a Slab

When considering how much porcelain stoneware tiles cost, it is important to understand that the price per square meter includes more than just raw materials and manufacturing. It is influenced by:

  • brand and country of manufacture — Italian and Spanish collections, such as those presented in the ITUM porcelain stoneware catalog, tend to cost more due to advanced digital printing technologies and stricter quality control;
  • slab format — large-format slabs are more difficult to manufacture and transport, which makes them more expensive than standard 60×60 or 60×120 cm tiles;
  • surface type — polished, lappato, or textured porcelain stoneware requires additional processing, which affects the price;
  • slab thickness — material intended for flooring, and especially for porcelain stoneware countertops, is thicker and stronger than wall tiles;
  • production batch and calibration — collections with precise rectified edges and minimal variations in shade generally cost more than standard product ranges.

Therefore, the wide range of porcelain stoneware prices in Ukraine is not accidental but directly reflects the materials and technologies used to produce a particular collection.

Format and Application: Why Floor and Wall Tiles Cost Differently

Another factor affecting the budget is the intended use of the material. If you are interested in the price of porcelain stoneware floor tiles in Kyiv, keep in mind that flooring collections are generally stronger, thicker, and have a higher wear-resistance rating than wall tiles. As a result, the price per square meter of flooring products may be higher even within the same collection.

The same principle applies to non-standard applications such as countertops or steps. These products require thicker slabs and additional mechanical processing. If you are considering porcelain stoneware not only for floors but also for work surfaces, it is advisable to budget for cutting, edge grinding, and, where necessary, edge polishing from the outset.

How Much Does It Cost to Install Porcelain Stoneware: Installation Expenses

The cost of the material itself is only part of the total budget. You also need to consider how much it costs to install porcelain stoneware, which depends on:

  • slab format — large-format slabs measuring 1200×2400 mm or more require at least two installers and specialized equipment for handling and installation;
  • condition of the substrate — if the screed needs leveling, preparation costs may exceed the cost of the tiles themselves;
  • complexity of the layout — diagonal installation, minimal joints, or complex room geometry increase both the time required and the cost of installation;
  • tile adhesive — large-format slabs and polished porcelain stoneware require more expensive flexible adhesives; otherwise, there is a risk of detachment or cracking.

On average, installation work may cost anywhere from around 30% of the material price up to an amount equal to the full cost of the material. Therefore, when planning the budget, it is important to consider not only the price per square meter of tiles but also the complete installation estimate.

Porcelain Stoneware Prices in Ukraine: What Causes the Difference

Porcelain stoneware prices in Ukraine are influenced by logistics, exchange rates, and whether the supplier works directly with the manufacturer or through intermediaries. Direct imports generally make it possible to offer more stable pricing without additional resale markups, so this is worth checking with the supplier when choosing a collection.

Purchase volume also affects the price: the larger the project area, the more favorable the terms may be, especially when purchasing premium brands such as those represented in ceramic tile and porcelain stoneware collections. When choosing large-format or exclusive products, it is advisable to confirm delivery times in advance, as rare batches may increase the total project cost due to logistics.
